Sefat, the capital of the Galilee and one of the four holy cities in Israel, together with Jerusalem, Hebron and Tiberius, is situated about 900 meter above sea level in the hilliest area of the Galilee revealing wonderful scenery. But the beauty of its surroundings is only second to its history and spirit. Sefat is the place that during a few decades in the 16th century some of the most important Jewish spiritual creations of the Halacha and Kabbalah were made and become cornerstones of modern Judaism influencing us until our days. In our walking tour we will touch upon all these issues but more importantly will experience and feel the special atmosphere of Sefat ancient and beautiful alleys of the Jewish quarter.

Tour Description
The tour will include:
- Pickup from your Hotel in Tel-Aviv and drive to Sefat
- We will start at the Sefat Crusaders’ fortress at the top of the hill. In this point we will see the magnificent scenery and learn a bit about its history. Going down we will see some of the excavations including a hidden and special cistern.
- At the Davidka square we will touch upon the inspiring story of Safed in 1948, during the independence war.
- Walking down the stairs into the old Jewish quarter will be like going backward in time to the 16th century – Safed’s golden age. We will learn about the sources of its prosperity that led to an unmatched spiritual creativity during the last few decades of the century. We will visit few synagogues and hear the fascinating stories and legends about the great characters that led the community in the 16th century such as Yossef Caro and HaAri Hakadosh. In addition we will walk in the Artists market with its special atmosphere and wonderful typical Jewish art.
